The Whiny ‘90s Bash
Saturday, May 15, 2010

2131 E. 71st Street
21+, doors 8:00, music 9:00

The Whiny '90s Bash will feature Pimlico, Peal, Jessica Benge and Matt Mays, Captain Hightop, No Alternative, Breakfast Club, Lines of Nazca and Maravich playing songs of that decade. If you ever wore flannel shirts in the summer, bought your little sister a Beanie Baby, saved up for an Atari game or worried about Y2K2 this is the show for you.
The ‘90s covered a lot of ground musically – from Baby Got Back to Better Man. It will be fun to see what music the bands choose to cover. Dig out your Nirvana tee shirt, dust off your Doc Martens and check out the show. It promises to be da bomb!

Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings
Sunday, May 23, 2010
The Vogue
6259 College Avenue
21+, doors 7:00, music 8:00, nonsmoking, $22 day of show

I pay attention when my hairdresser talks about music; Michael has introduced me to some great stuff. And years of great haircuts to boot. The latest show he’s been excited about is Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings.
Sharon and the band are known for their live shows – a nine piece band of funk and fun. Sharon just released her fourth record, “I Learned the Hard Way,” last month. The album was recorded on an old Ampex eight-track tape machine for a warm sound that is reminiscent of the live shows.
This show is early and nonsmoking. Perfect for a school night.
